Staged homes sell for more. That’s about all you technically need to know, but let’s get into it!
NAR had previously stated staged homes sell for at least 7% more than non-staged homes. There were some updates in 2021 regarding staging homes. In a more recent survey from 2023, they found 80% of Buyer’s Agents said staged homes helped their clients envision themselves in the home better than non-staged homes. A third of agents said homes sell for 1-10% higher.
A story out of Connecticut showed a home that had been listed for $699,000 and was not selling. The home was eventually re-listed and this time it was staged. This time it was re-listed for $772,000 and received multiple offers. The staged version of the home sold for $805,000.
I was trained early on the value of staging. It was almost a requirement for the first company I worked. I currently stage lived in homes as often as possible (timing can be of concern for somebody in dire need of a quick sale). What’s more? I pay for the staging!!! You heard that correctly. Staging is a courtesy I provide when listing homes. A separate professional stager consults with my sellers to prep the house and then comes back to finish staging. This has been a key to success in selling homes quickly and for more money. See a couple before and after photos below.
